Meet The Counselors
Welcome to Southaven Elementary School's counselor corner. My name is Marijo Cox and I am thrilled to be back with you. Things are very different this year but we are excited to be offering traditional as well as virtual learning to our students.
Greetings from the SES Counselor's Office. I'm excited to be joining the SES family and cannot wait to get to know your wonderful kiddos. I graduated from the University of Mississippi in 2003 "Hotty Toddy" with a B.A. in Special Education. I started as a self-contained/inclusion teacher at Olive Branch Middle School. I taught one year with the North Panola School District before transferring to H.W. Byers Middle & High Schools where I taught for five years. I completed my master's in school counseling at William Carey University in December 2009. Last year I completed my specialist in school counseling at the University of West Alabama. I transferred to Byhalia Elementary School in July of 2010 as counselor. This is my eighteenth year in education. I am married to Theotis Simmons and we have a trilogy blessing named Omari, Megan & Braylen. They are pretty active with sports so my life is controlled by their active lives. When I get a moment, I love pretty beaches and spending time with family. School counseling is my passion because I generally care about people and their emotional state. I believe that a healthy mind is pertinent to a healthy person. Please contact me if I can be of any assistance.
